JAY MAISEL – MASTER OF STREET SHOOTING, COLOR AND LIGHT

A New Yorker and passionate fan of the Big Apple, Jay Maisel (© Jay Maisel) is one of the world’s leading street-style photographers. Among professionals, he enjoys the fame of a leading specialist in the use of color and lighting. The photographer’s unique ability to work with the finest transitions of shades, to reveal the potential of gestures and poses brought him success. This is one of the most “prolific” American authors, who has been shooting for covers of famous magazines and music albums, commercial campaigns, as well as for self-realization for about 50 years.

Maisel is the winner of awards from the American Society of Photographers for the Media, the International Center for Photography and other influential organizations. Asher Fellig was born at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the town of Zolochev, which at that time belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After 11 years, the boy and his family moved to live in New York, where he changed his name to Arthur. The life of an emigrant made the teenager start working at the age of 14. He changes several places before becoming an assistant photographer. This event, apparently, radically influenced his future fate. Arthur began to work as a street portrait painter with a pony nowhere without special training, then he became a laboratory assistant at a photo studio. Working during the day in the studio, at night he went on a “photo hunt”. Now, the life of New York at night during the Great Depression is considered a certain style and distinctive sign, created, including, by such a talent as Viji. Continue reading

ANTON CORBEIN – THE MOST ROCKY PHOTOGRAPHY OF MODERNITY

Anton Corbijn was born in a Dutch province in 1955. His father was a priest of the Protestant church, and his mother was a nurse. Anton’s childhood passed in a small village. As a teenager, he becomes interested in photography. Corbain attended concerts and took the first pictures there, which he sold to local publications. Then he did not know what exactly the photos of the musicians would make him famous. The first significant mark in the career of the future photographer can be called a collaboration with the Dutch magazine Oor. Absolute self-taught managed to make interesting and deep shots. The obvious talent of the guy was torn out. In 1979, Arthur left his homeland and moved to London. Continue reading
